The Leader in Advocating for The
Texas Green Industry
The Texas Nursery & Landscape Association actively addresses public policy issues relevant to the Texas green industry. We advocate in the Capitol, helping policymakers consider the needs of our members. Through in-person meetings and stakeholder engagement, we ensure the voice of the Green Industry is heard. Our goal is for policymakers to understand how our industry's success contributes to public policy solutions that promote a healthier and more beautiful Texas.
The following are some of the many issues TNLA advocates on: Right 2 Farm- Vote YES to Prop 1 come Nov 7, 2023!
Texans, vote YES on Proposition 1 to protect the right to farm and ranch in Texas! Proposition 1, the Right to Farm and Ranch Amendment, protects the rights of landowners and lessees to engage in commonly accepted agricultural practices on their own properties. Proposition 1 preserves Texans’ access to safe and affordable food for the future by protecting our producers and our state’s agricultural land. On November 7, 2023, Texans have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to enshrine these protections in the Texas Constitution. Securing a Workforce
The need for labor is the biggest issue facing our industry. Our association is at the forefront of advocating for solutions to the ongoing labor shortage, including securing member access to H-2B & H-2A, advancing youth green industry certification, and training the justice-involved community. We participate in national fly-ins to D.C. to urge cap relief for H-2B and access to the H-2A program. TNLA staff work with the Texas Education Agency and local school officials to expand early access and exposure to our industry through industry certifications. We also ensure justice-involved populations in state correctional facilities have access to industry-based education to provide labor post-release and reduce recidivism. Water Availability & Infrastructure
In order for the green industry to flourish in Texas, it is imperative that growers have access to the water they need to nurture their crops, and consumers have affordable and easily accessible water resources to sustain plant life. TNLA is dedicated to ensuring that policymakers prioritize the provision of water for both current and future consumers. Through our leading role in the Texas Water Smart initiatives and active participation in state agency stakeholder meetings, TNLA advocates tirelessly to guarantee an abundant supply of water resources for the thriving Texas green industry. Business Friendly Regulatory Environment
Texas stands out as the ultimate state for conducting business, and there's no denying it! TNLA takes a stand for our member companies by advocating for policies that establish fair and predictable regulations. We continuously strive to address a wide range of issues, including advocating for reasonable taxes, implementing sensible plant regulations, minimizing employer mandates, maintaining fair licensing requirements, and safeguarding responsible chemical use. Rest assured, we remain actively engaged in these matters. Resources:
